The alternative to animal testing is the rising concept of current research. Cell culture is one of the best-preferred tools used in cellular and molecular biology; it serves as an excellent model system for studying the normal physiology and biochemistry of cell (e.g., metabolic studies, ageing), the effects of drugs and toxic compounds on the cells, and mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. It is the major tool in drug screening and development.
Various research activities involving cell and tissue culture are carried out at cell cuture laboratory of SPPSPTM. The facility has a Class 10,000 aseptic area and is well equipped with modern instruments. Different mammalian cell lines of different types of cells such as breast cancer (MDA-MB 231, MCF-7), cervical cancer (SiHa), lung cancer (A549), embryonic kidney (HEK-293), brain (U-87 MG), etc., are maintained in the cell cuture facility.
