A technical seminar on Asahi Kasei’s high functional microcrystalline cellulose was arranged by Dr. Pravin Shende on 9th August 2019 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm for the students of M Pharm MBA Ist Year all branches and Ph.D. Research Scholars.
Mr. Kenji Obata started with the introduction of Asahi Kasei India Pvt Ltd. Asahi Kasei is a Japanese conglomerate involved in manufacturing of Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) under the brand name of "CEOLUS”. Apart from conventional MCC ie 101 & 102, they are pioneers in manufacturing of functional MCC namely Ceolus KG & UF Grades. He also gave insights about understanding the excipients that form a major part of formulation development. Explaining in brief about the different types of excipients used like diluents, disintegrant, lubricants, sweeteners,etc.he fully explained it with the examples providing an essence of formulation particularly Novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) because they are related with exclusive excipients that help to achieve desired therapeutic effect.
He gave in-depth information related to theMCC and its application. He thoroughly explained about Ceolus UF-711 & UF-702and their propertiesof being highly compactible and flowable MCC. Starting from achieving average particle size, flowability, compactibility,etc., he covered all the essential points required for the formulation development.
Mr. Kenjialso gave insights about the varied range of excipients they manufacture and supply. Concluding the topic with key takeaways and the importance of Functional Microcrystalline Cellulose & its Application he also cleared the doubts and queries asked during the session. And closing words of gratitude was conveyed by Dr. Pravin Shende.
