Workshop on Entrepreneurship and Innovation as Career Opportunities
The Expert Speaker, Mrs. Pooja Kumar, Founder & Director of Innove Intellects LLP addressed students on various IPR and related case studies. The faculty was addressed in detail on the Patent Drafting & Registration process. The workshop was initiated with a short round of general questions asked to the audience about IPR and its relevance in today’s rapidly diversifying world of information. The audience enthusiastically replied and directed the workshop ahead. In the second part of the workshop, the faculty was made aware of various sections of the patent document and the importance of the ‘claims’ section. The patent lifecycle encompassing eligibility of the work for patenting, patent drafting, application process, publication stage and the grant of the patent was discussed with the faculty in detail.
Institution’s Innovation Day (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Birth Anniversary): Innovations REELay
The competition honed essential 21st-century skills like in-depth research, critical thinking, and eloquent presentation. The competition comprised two distinct rounds. In the initial stage, participants were assigned the task of selecting an innovation or discovery in the realm of healthcare and subsequently crafting an abstract about their chosen topic. Encouraged to think innovatively, students meticulously explored various journals, research publications, and blogs to enhance their comprehension. The second round necessitated the selected participants to produce a video or reel illustrating their chosen innovation. During this phase, they were to consider elements like information presentation, refined public speaking skills, in-depth knowledge, and contemporary design aesthetics. The produced reels were nothing short of extraordinary, drawing inspiration from truly compelling sources.
National Entrepreneurship Day
The spirit of entrepreneurship was celebrated on 9th November, 2023. An interactive board was set up on the occasion of National Entrepreneurship Day. Students and Faculty were encouraged to share their opinions based on the following question: Should entrepreneurs prioritize profit over social and environmental responsibility? Why? A great number of responses were received, each consisting of varied opinions. Some stated that to sustain profitability in a business, it is sometimes advisable to overlook social and environmental challenges and forgo that responsibility for the sake of one's business. Others were of the strong belief that these responsibilities are not to be compensated and that a business can be both profitable, socially moral, and environmentally responsible at the same time. Overall, the activity marked an engaging celebration of National Entrepreneurship Day in its true spirit.
Session on: Introduction to Startup, Entrepreneurship and IPR
The session, organized on 2nd November, 2023, introduced the audience to IPR and raised awareness on utilizing patent protection for startups and entrepreneurs. Ms. Praggati Aggarwal introduced the audience to the novelty of technology, thereby discussing various inventive steps a person should remember when modifying a certain product. She reviewed topics like industrial application, the massive importance of patents and their use, and trademarks, which included innovative symbols and logos denoting and representing a particular product. She then ventured into concepts like copyrights and trade secrets. Our 2nd Speaker, Ms. Reema Sahni Mediratta enlarged the spectrum by focusing on technology transfer, its future, and the significance of these rights. She helped the audience gain knowledge on the diversity of technology transfer and how it fosters innovation of the organization. She further added about I-TTO, which adds value to the invention, helps in assessing technology, and bridges gaps making it transferable.
Jack of All Trades
On 19th February 2023 the activity was conducted where participants learnt to solve problems in a team and make optimum use of the available resources for their entrepreneurial ventures. The event was led by the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the IIC, whose visionary approach reflects their dedication to building a culture of creativity and teamwork among the members. Firstly, participants developed critical thinking, teamwork and collaboration skills as they worked together to complete the challenges presented in the innovative activity. Members were divided into seven groups and tasked with creating shapes using stationary items. Each team appointed a trader to exchange items with others, enhancing negotiation skills. The team with the most shapes won. Overall, the event successfully achieved its objectives of promoting teamwork, creativity, and communication skills among IIC members. Participants emerged with enhanced problem-solving abilities, negotiation skills, and a stronger sense of unity, laying a foundation for future entrepreneurship and startups.
IIC Regional Meet 2023-24
The IIC at SVKM’s NMIMS, Mumbai was represented by the IIC President, Dr. Jagannath Shoo, Dean SPPSPTM, Dr. Namita Hegde, IIC Convenor for SPPSPTM and the Student Presidents of the IIC at SPPSPTM at IIC 6.0 Regional Meet hosted by Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani on 6th November 2024. The meeting commenced with a networking tea, which served as an excellent opportunity for all attendees to interact with each other and exchange their learnings while visiting the stalls of startup exhibitors of the YUKTI Innovation Challenge. It was inspiring for our team to realise how innovators had been awarded patents for providing solutions to daily-life problems such as travelling in overcrowded public transport vehicles. The day concluded with recognising the best innovations and presentations of IIC activities in the form of a poster. The SVKM’s NMIMS, Mumbai secured 2nd place for presenting the Best Poster among all HEIs in attendance.
Investor’s Den (A Startup Idea Pitching Competition)
The 'Investors Den' event sparked a dynamic exchange of ideas, with college students passionately presenting their entrepreneurial visions to a discerning panel of investors.
Presenters demonstrated remarkable skills, articulating business concepts effortlessly within tight timeframes. These presentations provided an excellent opportunity for students
to showcase their expertise in market analysis and financial projections for prospective start-up ventures. The insightful and well-prepared presentations are a testament to the depth
of research achievable through hard work and dedication, inspiring all. Interactive Q&A rounds and constructive feedback from judges played a pivotal role in broadening the spectrum
of knowledge and innovation. The event showcased participants' impressive abilities, illustrating the intersection of theoretical knowledge and practical application in the entrepreneurial landscape.
Orientation Session on 'National Education Policy 'with a Focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship
An orientation session on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a special focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, was organised by SVKM’s NMIMS, SPPSPTM Innovation Council, Mumbai on December 28, 2020. Esteemed speaker Dr. N. Jayasankaran, who holds a multitude of profiles and positions across various sectors in academia, provided his key insights on NEP. Some of the key takeaways from the policy are the light but tight regulation of the education system, a greater focus on multidisciplinary approach, as well as the aim to increase the gross enrolment ratio (GER) from its current standing at 26.3% to 50% by 2035.
Orientation Session on National Innovation and Start-Up Policy
Being cognisant with the ever-increasing impetus been provided to innovation, SVKM’S NMIMS, SPPSPTM Innovation Council, Mumbai organised an enriching orientation session on the National Innovation and Start-up policy (NISP) on December 28, 2020. Dr. Neeraj Kumar Sethiya chaired an illuminating session by providing a run-through of the National Innovation and Start-up Policy and its provisions. A brief overview of the process of framing and drafting of NISP as well as its ten clauses were shared. Various thrust areas of the NISP were discussed, such as creating an innovation pipeline, strengthening building organisational capacity, as well as increasing collaboration and cocreation between individuals and organisations.
Panel Discussion on Atmanirbhar Bharat: Vocal for Local, Make in India For World
‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, which translates to ‘self-reliant India’, is a policy formulated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, with a vision to make India a bigger and more important part of the global economy. In order to garner a better understanding of how the implementation of these policies could herald a brighter future for our country and its citizens, Our alumni, Mr. Mohit Harsolekar (Batch of 2017, M.Pharm), Mr. Bhavin Patel (Batch of 2014, M.Pharm), Mr. Ankit Tiwari (Batch of 2017, M.Pharm), Ms. Niloni Shah (Batch of 2015, B.Pharm) and Mr. Pritesh Patel (Batch of 2015, M.Pharm), were invited for a panel discussion on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat: Vocal for Local, Make in India for the World’ on December 26, 2020. Dr. Haresh Raulgaonkar joined the moderator for the session in an enriching discussion.
Session on Process of Innovation Development
An innovation process is something that describes the path of translating new and/or existing knowledge into marketable solutions. Companies that pursue a successful innovation process more often have something decisive that puts them ahead of others i.e., they have designed the path of an idea from generation, through development, to market entry.
An orientation session on the Process of Innovation Development was organised by the SVKM’s NMIMS SPPSPTM Innovation Council on January 21, 2021. Renowned personality, Mr. Chandru Chawla provided an inspiring session by discussing the key factors involved in the Innovation Development Process. He also shared the innovations undertaken by the Global Pharma Industry over the years and the latest being the Covid-19 Vaccine Project completed in record time of less than a year.
