The seminar titled "Indian Pharmaceutical Market – A global powerhouse at the crosswords of Innovation & Opportunity” took place on 21st October 2024. We were honoured to have, Mr. Mahesh Amdekar – Senior Director (Business Excellence), Emcure Pharmaceuticals as one of the distinguished speakers from Industry.

Ms. Khushi Kumar opened the session, bringing prestige to the event with the esteemed guest speaker's presence. Dean, Jagannath Sahoo, gave a heart felt welcome to our esteemed guest of the afternoon and urged him to guide us through industry insights.

The session was insightful, shedding light on how Indian pharmaceutical market is growing at 10% CAGR and the various areas one can focus on while planning to enter the industry.

Speaking of the Indian Pharmaceutical Market, the speaker highlights upon the fact that India is a global leader in affordable healthcare, generics and vaccines. It is supplying over 50% of global demand for vaccines and 40% of generics in the US and 25% of all medicines in UK.

The speaker further stresses upon the point which one must definitely remember and that is – what is making the companies drive itself, the story behind the numbers which is projected in IQIVIA IMS or any other equivalent report. Adding on to this the speaker urges to read well upon the top 10 most therapies in India and their top 10 molecules in each of the therapy sector.

The speaker also gives an urge to read over IQIVIA IMS data, if not latest then around 4 years old would also do and look upon the value of each molecule and the units sold. These two columns should definitely be seen to get a better edge when you are entering an industry.

He also sheds light on distributorship agreement which mostly the Multinational companies do these days is because they find the distribution network of India to be growing and Indian companies agree on the distributorship is to enhance the top line of the company.

Furthermore, the speaker talks about the growth drivers in the country which majorly includes two things:

  1. Changing demographics: By 2036 India’s 10% of the population is going to be in senior citizens.
  2. In the health frame wirk system of the country, the public sector spending / investing in health care has increased and government is funding around 22% of the healthcare expenditure.

Lastly the speaker talks about the access of healthcare being improved in the country with a mix of public and private setup with expansion happening across all fronts.

The floor was next opened to questions, and the session became interactively enriching with active participation from students.

Ms. Khushi Kumar expressed sincere appreciation through the vote of thanks and Mr. Prathamesh Lande presented the guest with a bouquet of flowers.

The guest session was a success with enriching insights and active participation from students with a total presence of 100 students at Juhu Jagruti Seminar Hall.
