The seminar titled "From Nature to Nutrition: Advancing Healthcare and Wellness Through Natural Nutraceuticals” took place on 23rd November 2024. We were honoured to have, Mr. Chaitanya Desai – COO & Executive Board Member, Omniactive Health Technologies as one of the distinguished speakers from Industry.

Ms. Siddhi Kankale opened the session, bringing prestige to the event with the esteemed guest speaker's presence.  Associate Dean, Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni, gave a heartfelt welcome to our esteemed guest of the afternoon and urged him to guide us through industry insights.

The session was insightful, shedding light on the ways Nutraceutical is becoming a new market and creating wellness routes for its consumers.

The speaker opened the session with making us understand the difference between Nutraceuticals and usual pharmacy drugs and then moved on to talk about the difference between Ayurveda and Nutraceuticals.

He mentioned the Indian market of Nutraceuticals is currently at $4Billion and is expected to grow significantly with its varied product segmentation as – functional food, functional supplement and dietary supplements.

He also added that the manufacturing of Nutraceuticals follows the same path of drug manufacturing from its formulation to packaging following its marketing, however an additional step comes with nutraceuticals, where in before the formulation they either do a contract farming or identify a source from where the right product can come in.

The speaker gave certain interesting examples like the valerian root only can improve the sleep health however if even a part of it’s stem comes in the removal of root then it will not be efficacious thus adulterated. Therefore, he expressed this as a challenge which one needs to be very careful about while choosing the right source and part of the plant.

Lastly the speaker talks about the curcumin case study which was a success and he mentioned that curcumin’s major challenge was poor bioavailability and it was worked upon and developed into a formulation which had increased bioavailability.

The floor was next opened to questions, and the session became interactively enriching with active participation from students.

Ms. Siddhi Kankale expressed sincere appreciation through the vote of thanks.

The guest session was a success with enriching insights and active participation from students with a total presence of 100 students in Classroom 410, SPPSPTM.
