Event name: World Pharmacists’ Day Celebration at SPPSPTM and Juhu Jagruti Seminar Hall on 25th September 2023

On the eve of World Pharmacists Day, SPPSPTM celebrated this occasion to commemorate and honor the contribution of pharmacists to the Healthcare Industry on September 25, 2023. Pharmacists are an integral part of the Healthcare world. Pharmacists bridge the gap between diagnosis and treatment. Whether it is dispensing medications or conducting research on new drugs and medicines, pharmacists play a vital role in guiding patients. Pharmacists have built up a big reserve over many years of caring and excellent practice. WHO decides a theme for every pharmacists’ day to highlight the current roles of Pharmacists. The theme for this year was "Strengthening Health Systems”.

Various events like PharmArt, Pharmacists’ Day Quiz, Oral and Poster presentation Competitions were organized during the morning hours of the day. The abstracts were reviewed by a panel of our judges and the selected students proceeded to the second round. The final presentation was held on 25th September, 2023. The panel of judges for poster presentation were Dr. Sandeep Narula, Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Dr. Mahesh Palkar and Dr. Mital Patel while the panel of judges for the oral presentation were Dr. Pravin Shende, Dr. Khushwant Yadav and Dr. Ginpreet Kaur. Three best posters and oral presentations were awarded with a certificate on the same day. All participants received e-certificates. This event saw an enthusiastic participation, and the exceptional presentations that undoubtedly showcased the participants’ talent and dedication to the pharmaceutical field. Thus, the entire academia and students came together to spread awareness regarding the role of Pharmacists in the modern world and their contribution. It helped foster an intellectual exchange of innovation along with a great showcase of creativity. These events culminated in the Formal Celebration Function for World Pharmacists’ Day which included a very fruitful and informative guest lecture by Isthmus Urjja. The event was conducted on 25th September at Juhu Jagruti Seminar Hall. It was conducted from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. The Chief Guest for this occasion was Dr. Rohit Bhavsar, the Manager in Clinical Pharmacy - Clinical Pharmacologist at Nowroejee Wadia Hospital, Parel Mumbai. Virati Shah hosted the event. She briefly introduced the importance of pharmacists and the schedule of the event. Then, the honorable Dean, Dr. Jagannath Sahoo addressed the students and shared some informative insights about the role of AI in pharmacy, the various advancements and the co-relation of the various types of technology with pharmacy. He also discussed the upgrades in the field of bio printing and its use in organ donation and transplantation. Following this, the chief guest Dr. Rohit Bhavsar took over and addressed the gathering. He talked about his journey as a clinical pharmacologist and his various experiences which highlight the importance of knowledge as holistic in nature. He emphasized that self- medication may be unsafe for patients and may lead to unwanted adverse events. He shared his experiences with few case studies on how a medical advisor functions and acts as an essential mediator in the healthcare sector. Knowledge about the pharmaceutical products, its mechanism of actions, knowing drug drug interactions and drug food interactions are utmost important in patient care. After this, a Question-Answer round took place wherein the audience was given an open platform to ask their doubts and queries to the chief guest. The chief guest clarified their doubts and gave examples from day-to-day life experiences to better understand

 

the terminologies. Afterward, a Prize distribution ceremony took place in which the winners of various competitions were felicitated with their respective prizes and certificates. A new annual award, the Best Pharmacy Student Award, was also introduced to encourage students and acknowledge their interdisciplinary achievements. The winners were felicitated by the honorable Chief Guest and the respected Dean. Another significant part of the event was the recitation of the Pharmacist's Oath. This is a solemn pledge that the pharmacists took to uphold their obligations and professional ethics, prioritizing patient care, and ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.

 

To conclude the event, Associate Dean Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni delivered the vote of thanks. He expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and the students attending the event. Finally, the event was concluded with the National Anthem, an important symbol of patriotism, unity and love for our motherland.Pharmacists are the backbone of the healthcare sector. They are working tirelessly to improve the quality of service provided to patients. It is extremely heartwarming to see them receive well-deserved recognition for all their efforts.
