AAROGYA (ANNUAL CITY HEALTH CAMP)

Aarogya-2018 (March 14, 2018) where was undertaken by Kshamta Committee of SPPSPTM to provide for free health check-ups to the underprivileged of our dear own city Mumbai. The principle of Aarogya was to provide free walk-in health check-up for those who are discounted on account of affordability or awareness. Right from BMI to blood tests, the aim is to provide a basic medical record for future reference of an individual and improve his/her knowledge about health.

For Aarogya-2018, we were fortunate to obtain the St.Xavier’s ground (Vile Parle (W) to conduct the event. Fr. Savio of St. Xavier’s not only supported our endeavor but took keen interest in the event. We then contacted medical staff from the Lokmanya Tilak Muncipal Medical College and Baba Jeevan Singh Ji Memorial Medical Centre and Angel Dentist Centre with a request to spend their valuable time for attending to the needy on the scheduled date of March 14, 2018 which was a weekday. Dr. Seema Sanja Bansode, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine and Mr. Bhopinder Singh Kohli from Baba Jeevan Ji Memorial Medical Centre were more than pleased to come to our aid and provided us with medications and medical staff for the event. Due to the available medical staff and medications, we could provide the following tests; pulmonary function tests, eye tests, dental tests, blood tests (Haemoglobin, Glucose, Blood pressure, Blood group), bone tests.

The health camp received an enormous response on the scheduled date. We could cater to several patients (children & adults) from St. Xaviers School, Salaam Baalak, Bandivali Education Trust and Holy Cross School. The total number of people attended to by the doctors of our camp was around 890. The camp was filled with enthusiasm provided by patients, doctors, and volunteers alike. The title sponsors for Aarogya -2018 were Alkem Laboratories Ltd. and Wockhardt Ltd. whose generous monetary contributions enabled the successful organization of the event.

The joy of contributing to society in some way or another has always been the main principle of Kshamta and this was achieved by Aarogya too.
