AIDS AWARENESS CANDLELIGHT MARCH

The students of SPPSPTM SVKM’s NMIMS, Mumbai, participated in the AIDS Awareness candlelight march organized by Rainbow Tigers in association with Gaurav on the occasion of World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2016. The march started at around 6 p.m. from Juhu Koliwada to Juhu Beach covering a distance of about 4.5 km. The march saw a footfall of about 50 people, holding candles lit over entire the route to support the cause and spread awareness. The red ribbons worn by the participants and various banners held throughout the route were instrumental in spreading the awareness. The candles were lit in the memory of the people who lost their lives due to AIDS. It took almost 30 minutes to reach Juhu beach where all the candles were arranged to form a ribbon i.e. symbol for AIDS Awareness. People expressed their thoughts about AIDS awareness, social stigmas associated with it and changes that are needed in the society to accept people with AIDS. As a Pharmacy aspirant, it becomes our duty to promote awareness about preventive measures, diagnosis and treatments available to combat AIDS. This entire march was covered by Hindustan Times and an article was published in its 2nd December, 2016 supplement. The objective of the march was to support the idea of "BE A PART OF THE CHANGE” to contribute a bit to the society and make it a better place for people who are suffering from AIDS and to reduce its incidences as far as possible. Few glimpses of the March are shown below:
