Venue: Our Lady's Home (orphanage), Dadar East, Home for the Aged in Jogeshwari East, Age Nurture Nest Old Age Home

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Objectives of the event: The objective of Kartavya was to bring joy and companionship to the elderly and the youth through interactive activities while fostering empathy and social responsibility among the committee members.

Kshamta, the social responsibility forum of SPPSPTM SVKM’S NMIMS, has been diligently organising events for the betterment of society for the past decade. The committee conducted its first full committee event of 2025-26 ‘Kartavya’ on October 4th,2025, in three different locations:

  • Age Nurture Nest, Old Age home, Andheri East
  • Home for the Aged, Jogeshwari East
  • Our Lady’s Home (orphanage), Dadar East.

The primary objective of ‘Kartavya’ is to create a meaningful impact by donating essential items for care and development, as well as engaging through fun sessions.

Team Kshamta visited Our Lady’s Home Orphanage in Dadar East, where the volunteers arrived at the location at 9:30 a.m. and began setting up the stands and organizing the event to ensure a smooth flow. The kids arrived at 9:45 a.m., and they were greeted by Kshamta Executive Board which marked the beginning of the event.

To create a cheerful atmosphere, we began by playing music and organizing a light dance session, during which the children joyfully danced with great enthusiasm. The children then played games like "football”, "dodge ball”  with Team Kshmata, which helped them grow mentally as well as physically.

Mr. Pravin Bera the founder of Dr. Rashel, graced the event with his presence. He was honoured by a welcome speech and was felicitated by a token of appreciation by the Executive Board. He enthusiastically took part in the games played showing his love and care for the children and Team Kshamta. A bag of essential items sponsored by Dr.. Rashel was donated to the young ones which lit up their faces with joy

The items donated included-

  1. Fruits
  2. Biscuits
  3. Files and folders
  4. Stationary kits

Following the donation, the children were provided with nutritious meal boxes sponsored by the Indian Development Foundation, ensuring that they were well-nourished and cared for.

The event concluded on an energetic and positive note, with a speech of gratitude delivered by the Executive Board, acknowledging the relentless efforts of the members of Kshamta and expressing appreciation to the sponsors for their generous support and essential contributions.

The event at the Home for the Aged in Jogeshwari East commenced at 10:15 a.m. and featured a series of engaging activities. A Housie session was conducted at 10:30 a.m., followed by "Guess the Actor" at 11:00 a.m., which elicited nostalgic responses and enthusiasm from the residents. Dr. Amisha Vora, Faculty In-charge of Extra-Curricular Activities, graced the event at 11:05 a.m. and commended the organizing team for their efforts. The program continued with "Passing the Parcel" and dance sessions, promoting joy and participation among the attendees.

We were honoured by the presence of our esteemed faculty Dr. Amisha Vora who warmly interacted with the residents and acknowledged the students’ efforts in organizing such a meaningful event. Her presence added a special touch to the day and encouraged students to continue engaging in such compassionate initiatives.

A group photograph was taken at 11:50 a.m., and greeting card distribution followed at 12:30 p.m. The event also included a donation drive, wherein essential items such as

  1. Multivitamins,
  2. Iron tablets,
  3. Bedsheets,
  4. Protein powder,
  5. Adult diapers,
  6. Fruits
  7. Biscuits

were donated to the residents. An interview with the home's administration provided valuable insights into the residents' daily lives and highlighted the significance of such visits. This was followed  by giving away the heartfelt handmade cards which was made by our hospitality department.

The event concluded at 1:10 p.m., which was marked by an interview conducted with the owner of the old age home. The conversation offered valuable insights into the daily lives of the residents, the challenges they face, and the immense impact that visits like these can have. The owner expressed deep gratitude and emphasized the importance of fostering intergenerational bonds, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. The visit reinforced the values of empathy, respect, and compassion, and was a testament to the positive impact of community service.

Next up, the Team Kshamta visited the Age Nurture Nest Old Age Home on October 4th, 2025. All participants arrived at the venue by 3:30 p.m., ensuring adequate time for preparations before the activities commenced. The event officially began at 4:00 p.m. with warm greetings and light conversations with the residents, which helped create an atmosphere of comfort and inclusiveness. Shortly thereafter, at 4:15 p.m., the mood was lifted with a lively round of Antakshari. Both residents and committee members enthusiastically participated in singing songs, and the familiar melodies brought a sense of joy and togetherness, which was followed by certain more activities which uplifted the mood of the elderly. Their face lit up with joy and happiness which motivated the team.

At around 6:30 p.m., members of Kshamta extended their support through thoughtful donations. Essential items donated were-

  1. Groceries
  2. Fresh fruits
  3. Biscuits
  4. Adult diapers

Alongside personalized greeting cards that carried heartfelt wishes. The residents expressed deep gratitude, and the gesture added a sense of care and dignity to the occasion.

By 6:45 p.m., the farewell bidding began, during which members interacted individually with residents, thanked them for their warmth, and assured them of continued support. The event concluded at 6:50 p.m. with an address by the Executive Board

The Executive Board praised the efforts of the volunteers, appreciating the sensitivity, enthusiasm, and teamwork demonstrated throughout the day. Their words served as both recognition and motivation, reinforcing the idea that the true spirit of Kartavya lies in compassion, responsibility, and the simple act of bringing smiles to those in need.
