'Think of giving not as duty but as privilege'
Kshamta, the social responsibility forum of Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPPSPTM), SVKM’S NMIMS, Mumbai is an ensemble of people striving to create a positive impact in the society. He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything.
Team Kshamta comprising 70 student volunteers, 3 teachers (Dr. Surendra Agrawal, Dr. Khushwant Yadav, Dr. Archana Upadhya), 3 staff members (Mr. Mangesh Langekar, Ms. Ruchita Raorane, Mr. Ravindra Davade) and 11 doctors conducted Svasthya 2019 on the 20th October, 2019 at Shri Gadge Maharaj ashram school, Bhiwali. Around 400 children from 1stto 10th standard took part in the health camp. The health camp covered inspection of Skin, Oral hygiene, Dental check-up, BMI (body mass index), Eye check-up and general body check-up by physicians and specialists. After their check-up OTC medicines were provided on the basis of prescription. The outcome of the camp was tracing of four major health issues with the students. These cases were further referred to their immediate family members and school management for appropriate action. In all these cases necessary support was initiated by Team Kshamta and will continue till the case gets resolved.
The team conducted an interactive seminar on female
hygiene for female students using audio-visuals. They were educated on various
aspects of menstrual hygiene, management, and waste disposal of menstrual
products. The team also conducted seminar on general sanitation for all the
students along with distribution of sanitation and hygiene kit.
Team Kshamta collected donations in the form of dry grocery items such as wheat, rice, salt and sugar. It also purchased some of these items from donated money. The dry grocery donations were handed over to the Principal of the school.
Drawing competition for the students from class 7thto 10th was held as a preliminary round to qualify for the Diya painting competition. The students were provided with drawing sheets, crayons, scale, coloured pencils etc. Out of 270 participants, 50 were selected for round 2 (Diya painting). Every child was provided with paints, brushes and 2 Diya’s. Top 11 were rewarded with hampers which consisted of chocolates and art supplies. On the occasion of Diwali, sweets were also distributed amongst the children.
At the end of the camp, the doctors were appreciated for their voluntary participation by presenting them with mementos and certificates by Team Kshamta. Dr Surendra Agrawal assured the active support to the school as and when needed in terms of healthcare monitoring. The event ended with a vote of thanks from the School Principal who was overwhelmed with the kind gesture and expressed the need for continual support by such activities in near future also.
Team Kshamta is truly indebted to the
unending support of Dr. Bala Prabhakar (Dean, SPPSPTM), Dr. Surendra Agarwal,
Dr. Divya Suares and Dr. Khushwant Yadav (Extracurricular Faculty in-charge)
and the University in all such endeavours. The event wouldn’t be possible without
the contribution of each member of the Team.
