A Vaccine Awareness seminar was conducted on 6th September, 2017 by the Rx committee of SPPSPTM, at the Suryavanshi Kshatriya Samaj Hall, Dadar. The seminar aimed at throwing light on the various vaccines available in the market for various age groups, with emphasis on the vaccines to be given after 50 years of age. The chief speakers of the event were Dr. Shubha Raul, the ex-Mayor and a practicing Pediatrician and Dr. Kamakshi Bhate, who is a professor at KEM Hospital and College. The speakers spoke about what vaccines are, their need and also touched upon the stigmas associated with vaccine administration and their effects. The need for administration of vaccines such as the vaccine against the papilloma virus, MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) vaccine, cholera vaccine and against other diseases that are hitherto neglected, were stressed upon. The speakers also threw some light on availability and the difference in treatments given in government and private hospitals. One of the topics that aroused most interest in the audience was when Dr. Kamakshi Bhate spoke about vaccines specific to countries. Various countries have diseases specific to their region. Awareness regarding this was given with utmost care and was received with enthusiasm and interest by the listeners. The audience ranged from the ages of 12 to 68 yrs. The people who attended the seminar became more aware of the various vaccines available in the market. The seminar lasted for two hours with a one-one session of the speakers and listeners after conclusion of the talks. Thus our main intention, to improve knowledge regarding vaccines amongst people was achieved with utmost satisfaction.
